Upsidedown Birds + Things + Flowers Syrah
Upsidedown Birds + Things + Flowers Syrah

The Upsidedown “Birds + Things + Flowers” Syrah is a small-production Washington State red poured by the bottle at Grappa in Seattle’s Queen Anne neighborhood. Made by Upsidedown Wine from the high-elevation Equus Vineyard, it is a wild, expressive, minimal-intervention Syrah. We pour it for guests who love adventurous, character-driven wines.

About the Winery

Upsidedown Wine is a Washington producer focused on small-lot, hands-off winemaking that lets the vineyard speak. This bottling is a true artisan wine, made in a tiny quantity of roughly 45 cases, with an organic, whole-cluster, unfiltered approach that keeps the fruit fresh and unmasked.

Region & Grape

The fruit is 100% Syrah from Equus Vineyard in Washington’s Columbia Valley, a high-elevation site above the old Missoula flood plains with ancient riverbed stones and clay. Long, slow ripening and strong acid retention give the grapes one of the longest hang times in the state. The wine is foot-crushed, fermented organic and whole-cluster, aged 18 months sur lie, and bottled unfiltered.

Tasting Notes

Expect deep, brambly dark fruit with floral lift and a savory note of leather. The whole-cluster, sur lie treatment gives it a juicy, textured palate with velvety tannins. It is a dry, expressive red with vivid aromatics.

What to Pair It With
