The Zorzettig Pinot Nero is a medium-bodied red wine poured at Grappa in Seattle’s Queen Anne neighborhood. Made by the Zorzettig family in the Colli Orientali of Friuli in northeastern Italy, it earns its place on our list as a graceful, food-friendly red that drinks beautifully with everything from roasted chicken to lighter pastas. This is Italian Pinot Noir done with elegance and restraint.
About the Winery
Zorzettig Vini is a family-owned estate set in the rolling hills of Spessa di Cividale, in the heart of Friuli’s Colli Orientali. The family has farmed these hills for generations. Their vineyards rest on well-drained marl and sandstone soils, sheltered from harsh northern winds by the Julian Alps and cooled by gentle breezes from the Adriatic. It is a microclimate well suited to expressive, aromatic wines.
Region & Grape
This is Pinot Nero, the Italian name for Pinot Noir, grown in the Colli Orientali del Friuli. Friuli is best known for its whites, but its cooler hillside sites also yield refined, perfumed reds. The vintage we pour is 2022. Cool nights and well-drained soils give the wine its lift and aromatic detail.
Tasting Notes
Expect aromas of ripe red cherry and raspberry layered with dried herbs, soft spice, and a touch of vanilla. The palate is medium in body, acidity, and tannin, with red fruit, a whisper of pepper, and an earthy, slightly savory finish. It is dry, silky, and balanced, the kind of red that refreshes rather than overwhelms.
What to Pair It With
Its medium weight and bright acidity make it wonderfully versatile. Try it with our Roasted Lemon Chicken, Pappardelle Bolognese, or a Charcuterie Board. Explore more pairings on our full dine-in menu.
