Gaja Grappa Gaia & Rey
Gaja Grappa Gaia & Rey

Gaja Grappa Gaia & Rey is a refined single-grape grappa poured by the glass at Grappa in Seattle’s Queen Anne neighborhood. Distilled from the Chardonnay pomace of Gaja’s renowned Gaia & Rey wine, it carries the polish of one of Italy’s most celebrated estates, an elegant digestif we are honored to set before you from our family to your table.

About the Distillery

The Gaja winery was founded in 1859 by Giovanni Gaja, great-grandfather of Angelo Gaja, perhaps the most internationally famous figure in Italian wine. Based in Barbaresco in the Piedmont region, Gaja is a benchmark name for quality. Gaia & Rey is the estate’s pioneering Chardonnay, and its grappa is produced from that same fruit’s pomace, distilled at the cooperative distillery of Barbaresco, which was founded in 1980.

Style & Production

This grappa is made exclusively from Chardonnay, the grape behind the Gaia & Rey wine, with fruit drawn from Gaja’s Piedmont vineyards. Grappa is distilled from pomace, the skins, pulp and seeds left after the grapes are pressed for winemaking, rather than from wine. The Gaia & Rey pomace is distilled in a discontinuous alembic still that gently preserves the grape’s varietal aromas, then rested in stainless steel before bottling.

Tasting Notes

Crystal-clear in the glass, it opens with inviting herbal and white-fruit aromas. This is a notably delicate grappa, where soft notes of orchard fruit lead the bouquet and carry onto the palate. The sip is smooth and gentle rather than aggressive, finishing clean and graceful, a polished close to a fine meal.

What to Pair It With

Its delicate, fruit-driven style flatters lighter finishes. Pour it with our Vanilla Bean Panna Cotta, a scoop of house gelato or sorbet, or a slice of Mama’s Tiramisu. Browse the full dine-in menu to round out your evening.

How It’s Served at Grappa

We pour Gaja Grappa Gaia & Rey neat as a digestif, served at room temperature in a tulip glass so its delicate aromatics can open. It is offered at $36.
