Oban 14 Year West Highland Single Malt
Oban 14 Year West Highland Single Malt

Oban 14 Year is a lightly smoky West Highland single malt, and it is poured at Grappa in Seattle’s Queen Anne neighborhood. It is a graceful, balanced whisky that bridges the sweetness of the Highlands and the smoke of the islands, an elegant after-dinner pour for guests who want maritime character without the intensity of a heavily peated malt.

About the Distillery

Oban is one of Scotland’s oldest and smallest distilleries, built into the harbor town of Oban on the rugged west coast, with the sea quite literally at its door. Its compact stills and coastal setting give the whisky its signature character, a meeting of Highland fruit and West Coast salinity. The 14 Year is the flagship expression, long chosen to represent the West Highland style.

Style & Region

This is a West Highland single malt, sitting between the sweeter mainland malts and the smokier island whiskies. Matured chiefly in ex-bourbon oak, it carries Highland honey and orchard fruit alongside a gentle maritime layer of sea spray and light smoke. The region defines it: a coastal whisky that is lightly smoky rather than peaty, balanced and refined throughout.

Tasting Notes

Expect a nose of honey, malted barley and orange peel, with soft orchard fruit and a subtle sea-spray salinity beneath. The palate is creamy and gently smoky, with marmalade, toffee apple and pear, a touch of sea salt and a whisper of dried fruit. The finish is long and warming, drying toward dark chocolate with lingering smoke and salt, elegant and satisfying.

What to Pair It With

Its light smoke and coastal character make Oban lovely with our briny Fresh Oysters and the char of our Spaniard Octopus. The honeyed fruit also flatters our Charcuterie Board and the marbled richness of our American Wagyu Steaks. Browse the full dine-in menu to build your evening.
