Citadelle is an elegant French gin from the Cognac region, and it is poured by the glass at Grappa in Queen Anne, Seattle. With a deep botanical complexity and old-world craftsmanship, it brings a refined, continental polish to the glass.
About the Distillery
Citadelle is made in the southwest of France, just minutes from the town of Cognac, drawing on a gin recipe with roots stretching back to the late eighteenth century. It is distilled in traditional Charentais copper pot stills over a naked flame, the same kind of stills used for fine Cognac, and the estate even cultivates its own juniper across from the distillery. This is a gin shaped by patience, terroir and French savoir-faire.
Botanicals & Style
Citadelle is a classic yet richly aromatic London-style gin built on a remarkable nineteen botanicals. Juniper sits firmly at the center, joined by coriander, citrus from lemon and orange peel, and a fragrant medley that includes violet, cardamom, cassia, cinnamon, star anise, fennel, nutmeg and orris root. The breadth of botanicals gives it both a juniper-forward backbone and a layered, perfumed complexity that feels distinctly French.
Tasting Notes
Expect clean, resinous juniper framed by bright citrus and a wave of warm baking spice. Floral violet and aromatic cardamom lend perfume and finesse, while fennel and star anise add a subtle, savory depth. The palate is smooth and well-knit, finishing long, dry and gently spiced. It is a sophisticated gin that rewards sipping and elevates a classic cocktail.
