Del Maguey “Vida” is a gently smoky espadin mezcal from Oaxaca, beloved as both a sipping and cocktail mezcal, and it is poured at Grappa in Queen Anne, Seattle. It offers a warm, characterful introduction to artisanal agave spirits.
About the Distillery
Del Maguey is a pioneering single-village mezcal house celebrated for championing traditional Oaxacan production. Vida is its versatile flagship, crafted by skilled mezcaleros using time-honored methods passed down through generations in the villages of southern Mexico.
Agave & Region
This is a mezcal made from espadin agave grown in Oaxaca, the cultural home of mezcal in southern Mexico. The agave hearts are roasted in earthen pits, which is the source of mezcal’s signature gentle smoke, then crushed, naturally fermented and distilled. It is bottled unaged, so the spirit stays bright and expressive of the agave and the land.
Tasting Notes
A soft veil of wood smoke opens onto cooked agave, ripe fruit and citrus, with hints of honey, vanilla and a touch of green herb. The smoke here is restrained and welcoming rather than aggressive, leading to a clean, warming finish.
What to Pair It With
Its quiet smoke is wonderful with the fire-kissed char of our Spaniard Octopus and the smoke and saffron of Grappa’s Famous Paella. It also stands up beautifully to the heat of our Spicy Sausage Rigatoni. Browse more on our dine-in menu.
How It’s Served at Grappa
We pour Del Maguey Vida neat for sipping, or as the smoky backbone of a cocktail, for $13.
