Poli Gran Bassano Rosso Vermouth is an artisanal Italian red vermouth made by the Jacopo Poli distillery — a fortified, aromatized wine in the classic aperitivo style — and it is poured at Grappa in Seattle’s Queen Anne neighborhood. Built on Merlot rather than the usual white wine, it carries the character of the Veneto foothills near Bassano del Grappa. We list it because Poli is a name we revere for distilling, and this vermouth shows the same balance of personality and elegance.
About the Producer
The Poli distillery is a historic family enterprise founded in 1898 in Schiavon, near Bassano del Grappa in the heart of the Veneto. For four generations the Poli family has worked with an ancient all-copper alembic, one of very few still in use, building a reputation for grappa and fine distillates of great refinement. With Gran Bassano, Jacopo Poli revived a great-grandfather’s formula to create a modern vermouth that expresses the family’s home territory.
Style & Production
Gran Bassano Rosso is unusual in being built on Merlot, a French grape cultivated in the Pedemontana Vicentina since the late nineteenth century. The red wine base is infused by natural infusion with a generous suite of aromatic botanicals — among them holy thistle and a local yarrow native to the Bassano area, alongside rhubarb, vanilla, pimento, ginger and licorice. The botanicals are infused into the wine, which is then fortified and lightly sweetened, yielding a vermouth of notable aromatic depth.
Tasting Notes
The nose is rich and spiced, with vanilla, dried red fruit and warm baking spice. The palate is full and velvety, carrying the Merlot’s dark-fruit depth alongside rhubarb, licorice and gentle ginger warmth, framed by a measured herbal bitterness. The finish is long, spiced and elegant — a vermouth with the structure to sip slowly.
What to Pair It With
Its spiced, full-bodied character pairs beautifully with antipasti. Enjoy it with our Charcuterie Board, with Heirloom Tomatoes & Burrata, or alongside Saganaki. See the full dine-in menu for more.
