Brunch in Queen Anne: Weekend Mornings at Grappa

There is a particular ease to a weekend morning in Queen Anne. The hill is quiet, the light comes in low off Lake Union, and Seattle Center has not yet filled with the day. It is the hour we love most at Grappa, when the candles are lit, the espresso machine is warming, and the first plates of weekend brunch begin to leave the kitchen.

The room at ten o’clock

We open the doors at 10 AM on Saturdays and Sundays. Inside, the dining room keeps its candlelit, unhurried calm; outside, our four-season patio catches the morning sun and stays warm and weather-proof whatever the Seattle sky decides to do. It is an easy place to settle in with the people you like best and let the morning take its time. Tucked into Queen Anne near Seattle Center and South Lake Union, we are close enough to fold into a day at the park or the arena, yet quiet enough to feel like a small escape.

What to order

Grappa is a Mediterranean kitchen, and brunch is where we get to play. Regulars come back for the American wagyu steak & eggs and for eggs benedict crowned with fresh Dungeness crab. Our French crepes are made to order, folded around seafood or sweet berries, and our famous paella turns up at brunch for the table that wants something generous to share. If you are deciding between savory and sweet, our advice is simple: order one of each and pass the plates around.

A scratch kitchen

Almost everything that reaches your table is made in house, from the pastas we cut by hand to the crepe batter we mix to order. We cook with the seasons and with care, leaning on Pacific Northwest seafood and good Italian staples, because that is how this family has always cooked. It is not fussy food; it is honest food, prepared properly, and served with the warmth of a restaurant that still feels like someone’s home.

Coffee, and a carafe for the table

The drinks deserve as much attention as the plates. We pour local Armistice coffee and a rich, slow Turkish coffee, and our fresh-squeezed mimosas come by the glass or by the carafe for the table. When the occasion calls for something more, the brunch cocktail list is ready, from a proper Scratch Mary to an espresso martini.

Bring the whole family

Grappa is family-owned, and children are genuinely welcome at our table. The kids menu keeps the youngest guests happy with waffles, pasta, grilled cheese and meatballs, and there are gluten-free options for the grown-ups who need them. If a weekday suits you better, our weekday brunch menu is served Monday through Friday.
