Amrut Old Port Rum
Amrut Old Port Rum

Amrut Old Port Rum is an Indian rum from the celebrated Amrut distillery in Bangalore, a quietly characterful pour that rewards the curious. It is a less common sight on American bars, which makes it a small discovery for guests who like to explore. At Grappa, we are glad to offer it in our Queen Anne dining room in Seattle.

About the Distillery

Amrut is based in Bangalore, in southern India, and earned its international reputation chiefly through its single malt whisky. The same house brings that craft sensibility to its rum, drawing on India’s deep history with sugarcane and on the warm southern climate that shapes everything aged there. Old Port is one of its more traditional offerings, a straightforward rum made with the steady hand of an established distiller.

Style & Production

This is a molasses-based rum, distilled from sugarcane molasses, a fitting style for a country that is among the world’s great cane growers. The spirit is matured in oak in the heat of southern India, where the warm climate encourages a faster, more active exchange between rum and wood. The result is a gently aged, golden rum that leans toward an easygoing, traditional profile rather than a heavily spiced or overtly funky one.

Tasting Notes

The nose offers molasses sweetness, light caramel, and a soft note of dried fruit. The palate is smooth and mellow, with brown sugar, a touch of toffee, and gentle oak from its time in barrel. The finish is clean and warm, unfussy and easy to enjoy.

What to Pair It With

Its molasses warmth pairs beautifully with Mama’s Tiramisu and the rich depth of our Flourless Chocolate Cake. It also sits comfortably beside a Charcuterie Board. See the full dine-in menu for more pairings.

How It’s Served at Grappa
