The Balvenie PortWood 21 Year Old
The Balvenie PortWood 21 Year Old

The Balvenie PortWood 21 Year Old is a study in patience and grace, a Speyside single malt given a final flourish in rare port pipes. Poured neat at Grappa, it is among the most elegant ways to close an evening in Queen Anne.

About the Distillery

The Balvenie has distilled in the heart of Speyside since 1892, one of the last houses to still grow its own barley, run its own floor maltings and keep a coppersmith and cooperage on site. That traditional, hands-on craft gives Balvenie its renowned honeyed character and its reputation as one of Scotland’s most refined single malts, a perfect companion to Grappa’s elegant table.

Style & Region

This is a Speyside single malt, aged for twenty-one years and then finished in thirty-year-old port pipes. That marriage of long maturation and a port-cask finish adds a layer of soft fruit and gentle wine-like depth to Balvenie’s classic honey and oak. The result is delicate yet complex, with elegance the defining note throughout.

Tasting Notes

The nose offers honey, vanilla, toasted nuts and crisp berries threaded with a touch of spice. The palate is gentle and layered, with white peach, sultana, soft fruit and a lovely resinous port note up front. The finish brings stewed fruit, nutmeg, milk chocolate and that lingering Balvenie honey. Beautifully balanced and long.

What to Pair It With

Its fruit and honey are a graceful match for dessert and richness alike. Pair it with our Flourless Chocolate Cake, or let it follow our American Wagyu Steaks. Explore more on the full dine-in menu.
