Hennessy V.S is the benchmark VS Cognac, a grape brandy from the Cognac region of southwestern France known the world over for its rich, approachable character. We pour it at Grappa, our Italian and Mediterranean restaurant in Queen Anne, Seattle, as a familiar and welcoming way to round off a meal.
About the Producer
Founded in 1765, the House of Hennessy is the most widely recognised name in Cognac, with centuries of experience in selecting and blending eaux-de-vie. Its cellar masters draw on one of the largest reserves in the region, and the V.S expression is their everyday classic, the bottling by which countless drinkers first come to know Cognac.
Style & Production
This is a grape brandy distilled chiefly from Ugni Blanc wine in the Cognac appellation. It carries the official V.S, or Very Special, designation, a blend of eaux-de-vie matured in French oak. The oak rounds the spirit and lends it the colour and gentle spice that define the house style.
Tasting Notes
Bright amber in the glass, with aromas of toasted oak, vanilla, and ripe stone fruit edged with a little spice. The palate is robust and fruit-forward, carrying notes of grape, almond, and warm oak, with a clean, lively finish.
What to Pair It With
Its oak-and-spice warmth is a natural with our Flourless Chocolate Cake or a slice of Mama’s Tiramisu. The fruit-forward profile also pairs well with our Charcuterie Board from the dine-in menu.
How It’s Served at Grappa
We serve it neat as a digestif, in a snifter, for $14.
