Jacopo Poli Arzente
Jacopo Poli Arzente

Jacopo Poli Arzente is an Italian aged wine brandy — a spirit distilled from wine and matured in oak — and it is poured at Grappa in Seattle’s Queen Anne neighborhood. It is made by Poli Distillerie in Schiavon, in the Veneto, and stands as the family’s refined Italian answer to cognac. We list it because it is a quietly luxurious digestif: distilled from a single, carefully chosen wine grape and patiently rested in oak, it brings warmth and elegance to the close of a candlelit dinner.

About the Producer

The Poli family has been distilling since 1898 in Schiavon, near Bassano del Grappa, building four generations of expertise in the Veneto. While they are perhaps best known for grappa, Arzente represents their dedication to brandy — the distillation of wine itself — and reflects the same patient, artisanal craft. The name Arzente is an old Italian word for brandy, championed by the poet Gabriele D’Annunzio.

Style & Production

Arzente is distilled from Trebbiano di Soave, a wine prized for being delicate, low in alcohol and tannin and high in acidity — an ideal base for fine brandy. After a slow copper pot distillation, it is matured at length in oak: years in Slavonian oak casks, followed by time in Limousin barrels and a final rest in Allier casks. This layered aging is what gives Arzente its depth, its amber color and its smooth, polished character.

Tasting Notes

Expect an inviting nose of cream pastries, dried fruit and toasted oak, with hints of nuts and herbal tea. On the palate it is smooth and mouth-filling, marrying the fine, delicate aromas of Trebbiano with rich toasty notes from the wood. The finish is long, warming and refined — a brandy made for slow, contemplative sipping.
