Puni Italian Vina is a Marsala-cask single malt from Puni, Italy’s first malt whisky distillery, and it is poured at Grappa in Seattle’s Queen Anne neighborhood. Vina marries the country’s pioneering whisky with one of its most revered fortified wines, making it a natural fit for an Italian table: an alpine single malt matured entirely in casks that once held Sicilian Marsala.
About the Distillery
Puni was founded by the Ebensperger family in Glorenza, in the Val Venosta of Alto Adige, in the far north of Italy. It is the nation’s first single malt distillery, named for the Puni river that runs through the valley. In the dry, alpine climate of South Tyrol, warm summers and cold winters draw the spirit deep into the wood, accelerating maturation and building complexity in a relatively young whisky.
Style & Region
This is an Italian single malt from Alto Adige, matured in hand-selected dry Marsala casks from Sicily. The Marsala wood is the heart of the expression, lending dried-fruit richness, nutty warmth and baking spice without any peat. It is a uniquely Italian pairing of north and south: alpine distillation finished in casks from the Sicilian coast.
Tasting Notes
Expect a nose of sultanas, fig and fruitcake, with creamy walnut and a whisper of cinnamon. The palate is full and textural, offering sweet dried fruit, cherry compote, plum and orange peel laced with warming spice, never cloying. The finish is long, dry and savory, with the Marsala influence carrying gracefully through to the end.
What to Pair It With
The dried-fruit richness of the Vina is made for our Charcuterie Board, where Marsala sweetness meets cured meats and aged cheese, and it is wonderful with our Flourless Chocolate Cake, the nutty spice echoing the cocoa. It also stands up to the marbled depth of our American Wagyu Steaks. Browse the full dine-in menu to build your evening.
