San Giorgio House Sangiovese
San Giorgio House Sangiovese

The San Giorgio House Sangiovese is our house red by the glass, poured at Grappa in Seattle’s Queen Anne neighborhood. Made in Puglia, in the heel of southern Italy, from the Sangiovese grape, it is the wine we reach for when a guest wants something honest, bright, and food-friendly. It earned its place on our list because it drinks beautifully on its own and flatters nearly everything coming out of our kitchen.

About the Winery

San Giorgio is a Puglian label built around the warm, sun-soaked vineyards of Italy’s south. Puglia is one of the country’s most productive and historic wine regions, known for generous fruit and approachable, well-priced reds. This bottling reflects that tradition: a straightforward, well-made Sangiovese crafted to be enjoyed young and shared at the table.

Region & Grape

Sangiovese is the backbone of central Italian reds and the most planted red grape in the country. Grown in Puglia’s hot Mediterranean climate, it yields a softer, riper, more immediately drinkable style than its cooler Tuscan cousins. The 2024 vintage is fresh and lively, made to highlight pure red fruit rather than heavy oak.

Tasting Notes

Expect bright red fruit on the nose, with notes of cherry and red plum. The palate is medium-bodied with a lovely balance of acidity and gentle tannins, giving it lift and structure without weight. The finish is clean and savory, which is exactly what makes Sangiovese such a natural partner for food.

What to Pair It With

This is a versatile red that shines alongside our spring and summer plates. Try it with the Pappardelle Bolognese, the Sicilian Meatballs, or a Margherita-style pizza and pasta from our kitchen. Explore more options on the full dine-in menu.
