Michter’s Shenk’s Homestead Sour Mash is a rare, heritage American whiskey poured at Grappa in Queen Anne, Seattle — a refined nod to the earliest days of the craft.
About the Distillery
Shenk’s Homestead is part of Michter’s celebrated portfolio, produced at the Michter’s distillery in Louisville, Kentucky. The name honors John Shenk, who in 1753 founded the Pennsylvania distillery whose lineage would one day become Michter’s. Released only annually in limited quantities, it is among the most sought-after expressions the house makes.
Style & Mash Bill
This is a Kentucky sour mash whiskey, made by the traditional sour-mash method in which a portion of a previous fermentation, called the setback, is carried into the next batch for consistency and depth. Its mash is rye-forward, including malted rye and caramel malt, and the whiskey is matured in charred American oak with a portion finished in toasted French oak from the Vosges region. The result sits between bourbon and rye in character.
Tasting Notes
Elegant and layered: caramel and honey meet rye spice, dried orchard fruit, and toasted nut, with the French oak lending floral, gently herbal complexity and a soft, lingering warmth. A graceful, contemplative sip.
What to Pair It With
Its spice and oak elevate our American Wagyu Steaks and complement the savory Sicilian Meatballs. It is also a thoughtful companion to our Charcuterie Board. Explore the full dine-in menu for more.
