Singani 63 is a Bolivian grape brandy, the brand of Singani, Bolivia’s national spirit, poured at Grappa in Seattle’s Queen Anne neighborhood. It is distilled from Muscat of Alexandria grapes grown high in the Bolivian Andes, and was brought to the United States by the filmmaker Steven Soderbergh. We list it as an aromatic, elegant sipping digestif, a worldly note to end an evening from our family to your table.
About the Producer
Singani 63 was founded by director Steven Soderbergh, who first tasted singani while filming in Bolivia and became devoted to it. He secured an import license and the rights to sell the spirit outside Bolivia, introducing it to the American market under his own label, named Singani 63 for the year of his birth, 1963. The spirit itself is a centuries-old Bolivian tradition, made from Muscat grapes first brought to the region by Spanish missionaries roughly 500 years ago.
Style & Production
Singani is a clear, aromatic spirit distilled from Muscat of Alexandria grapes grown at high altitude in the Bolivian mountains, where the intense sun and thin air concentrate the fruit’s perfume. It carries its own Bolivian Denomination of Origin and Geographical Indication; when it first entered the U.S. market it was classified as a brandy. Unlike grappa, which is distilled from grape pomace, singani is distilled from the wine of whole Muscat grapes, giving it a distinctly floral, fruit-driven character.
Tasting Notes
Expect a lifted, floral aroma of Muscat grapes, white flowers and soft citrus. The palate is clean and smooth, gently fruity and aromatic rather than heavy or hot, with an elegant, perfumed finish. Sipped neat at room temperature or lightly chilled, it is refined and easy to linger over.
What to Pair It With
As a sipping digestif, Singani 63 pairs beautifully with our Charcuterie Board, and its floral fruit makes it lovely beside dessert such as Mama’s Tiramisu or the Flourless Chocolate Cake. Your server can suggest a finish from the full dine-in menu.
How It’s Served at Grappa
We pour Singani 63 neat as a digestif at $11 per serving, a fragrant, candlelit close to the evening.
