Talisker 10 Year is the rugged, sea-swept single malt from the Isle of Skye, poured at Grappa in Queen Anne, Seattle. With its signature peppery warmth and coastal character, it is one of the most distinctive island whiskies in Scotland.
About the Distillery
Talisker was founded in 1830 on the western shores of the Isle of Skye, where it remains the island’s oldest working distillery. Exposed to the wind and spray of the surrounding sea, the distillery and its maturing casks draw a maritime quality directly from their dramatic Hebridean setting. Talisker’s distinctive character owes much to its unusual still shapes and its wild, weather-beaten home.
Style & Region
This is an island single malt with a personality all its own, neither as heavily peated as Islay’s smokiest drams nor as gentle as the Highlands. Talisker is lightly to moderately peated, with smoke that arrives as part of a larger maritime picture rather than dominating it. Maturation in oak rounds the spirit, while the coastal setting lends a briny, peppery lift that is the malt’s unmistakable hallmark.
Tasting Notes
Expect sea salt and a gentle waft of smoke on the nose, layered with brine, dried fruit, and a touch of sweetness. The palate is rich and warming, with its famous black-pepper spice, more smoke, and notes of citrus and malt. The finish is long and warming, with that signature peppery, smoky crescendo. It is a bold yet balanced pour for the coastal-whisky lover.
What to Pair It With
Talisker’s maritime smoke and pepper make it a natural match for our fresh oysters and our Spaniard octopus, where sea meets sea. It is also wonderful with a charcuterie board. Browse the full dine-in menu.
How It’s Served at Grappa
We pour Talisker 10 Year neat at $21. We recommend it neat, with a drop of water to soften its peppery edge if you like.
