The La Vedetta Barbera d’Asti Superiore is a Piedmont red wine poured at Grappa in Seattle’s Queen Anne neighborhood. Made by the small family estate La Vedetta in the heart of Piedmont’s Langhe hills, it is a 100% Barbera bottling produced in tiny quantities of only about 3,500 bottles. We pour it because it captures the bright, food-loving energy of Barbera while showing the care of a true artisan producer.
About the Winery
La Vedetta is a hands-on family operation built around a few small parcels of vineyard long cultivated by the same family. The owners take part in every step of the work, from the vineyard through to bottling, farming sustainably and without synthetic chemicals. The result is a wine made in very limited numbers, with the personality of a grower-made bottle rather than a large commercial cuvee.
Region & Grape
This is a Barbera d’Asti Superiore, made from 100% Barbera grown in Piedmont in northwest Italy. Barbera is the everyday red of Piedmont, prized for its deep color, juicy fruit, and naturally high acidity. The “Superiore” designation points to a riper, more structured style. This bottling is raised entirely in stainless steel, a choice that preserves the grape’s pure fruit and freshness rather than layering on oak.
Tasting Notes
Expect a lifted nose of bright red and dark berry fruit with floral notes and a touch of spice. The palate is fresh and lively, carried by Barbera’s signature bright acidity, with soft tannins and a clean, mouthwatering finish. The all-stainless upbringing keeps it vivid and fruit-forward, making it an ideal partner for food.
What to Pair It With
Barbera’s brisk acidity and red fruit are built for the table. It is excellent with our Pappardelle Bolognese, the Spicy Sausage Rigatoni, and Sicilian Meatballs. Explore more options on our full dine-in menu.
