Quinta Sardonia QS2
Quinta Sardonia QS2

Quinta Sardonia QS2 is a Tempranillo-based red blend from Castilla y León, Spain, poured by the bottle at Grappa in Seattle’s Queen Anne neighborhood. It comes from the biodynamic estate founded by Peter Sisseck, the winemaker behind the legendary Dominio de Pingus. We pour it for its glossy texture and layered black-fruit depth — a serious Spanish red for a special evening.

About the Winery

Quinta Sardonia is the project of Peter Sisseck, the Danish-born winemaker celebrated worldwide for Dominio de Pingus in Ribera del Duero. The estate sits near Sardón de Duero in Valladolid province, where Sisseck planted and nurtured a high-altitude site from scratch. The vineyards are farmed organically and biodynamically, spread across a ridge-and-valley landscape of varied calcareous soils.

Region & Grape

Castilla y León is a high, continental plateau in north-central Spain, where elevation and cool nights help wines retain freshness and aromatic detail. QS2 is built around Tempranillo and complemented by Cabernet Sauvignon, Petit Verdot, Malbec and Syrah, a Bordeaux-influenced blend that adds structure, spice and dark complexity to the Spanish backbone.

Tasting Notes

The 2013 leads with concentrated black fruit layered over notes of dark chocolate and coffee. The palate is glossy and polished, with a smooth, enveloping texture and well-integrated tannins. It is a wine of depth and refinement that has gained complexity with bottle age.
