Sparkman Cellars Yonder Cabernet Franc
Sparkman Cellars Yonder Cabernet Franc

Sparkman Cellars “Yonder” is a Columbia Valley Cabernet Franc poured at Grappa in Seattle’s Queen Anne neighborhood. Made by Woodinville’s Chris and Kelly Sparkman, it is a silky, layered expression of Washington Cabernet Franc rounded out with a touch of Merlot. We pour it for guests who love a red that is both expressive and elegant.

About the Winery

Sparkman Cellars was founded in 2004 by Chris and Kelly Sparkman in Woodinville, Washington. The winery built its reputation sourcing fruit from acclaimed vineyards across the state. Yonder began when fans of the winery clamored for a dedicated Cabernet Franc; the first release sold out almost immediately, and it has been a signature bottling ever since.

Region & Grape

The grapes come from Washington’s Columbia Valley, a vast and sunny AVA that ripens Bordeaux varieties beautifully. Cabernet Franc leads the blend, supported by a measure of Merlot for added flesh. The 2023 vintage saw roughly 45% new French oak, lending polish without overwhelming the fruit.

Tasting Notes

Expect a fragrant nose of red and dark fruit with the herbal, cassis-tinged signature of fine Cabernet Franc. The palate is plush and generous, with good acidity keeping it lively and a long, lush finish carrying gentle notes of chocolate and spice. Complex but approachable.
