Buffalo Trace Bourbon
Buffalo Trace Bourbon

Buffalo Trace is a Kentucky straight bourbon poured at Grappa, the Mediterranean restaurant in Seattle’s Queen Anne neighborhood. Distilled at the historic Buffalo Trace Distillery in Frankfort, Kentucky, it is a benchmark pour we keep on the list for its dependable depth and approachable warmth, an easy companion to a leisurely dinner at our tables on Boston Street.

About the Distillery

Buffalo Trace Distillery sits along the Kentucky River in Frankfort and is one of the oldest continuously operating distilleries in the United States, with roots reaching back into the nineteenth century. The site has earned National Historic Landmark recognition and is widely regarded as one of the most celebrated names in American whiskey. Its flagship Buffalo Trace bourbon takes its name from the ancient buffalo migration trails that once crossed the property.

Style & Mash Bill

Buffalo Trace is built on the distillery’s low-rye mash bill, a corn-forward recipe rounded with a modest measure of rye and malted barley. The result is a balanced, gently spiced profile rather than an aggressively peppery one. It is column distilled and matured in new charred American oak, where Kentucky’s swings of heat and cold draw caramel and vanilla from the wood.

Tasting Notes

Expect an inviting aroma of vanilla, caramel and soft brown sugar, with hints of toffee and oak. The palate is smooth and medium-bodied, carrying sweet corn, baking spice and a touch of dark fruit. The finish is warm and lingering, with mellow oak and a whisper of spice that fades gently rather than sharply.

What to Pair It With

Buffalo Trace is a natural beside our American Wagyu steaks, its caramel sweetness echoing a good sear. It also stands up beautifully to our Sicilian meatballs and rounds out an evening alongside the flourless chocolate cake. Browse the full dine-in menu to build your table.
